“This marks Fahadh’s first film as…,” said the celebrated director.
Celebrated filmmaker C. Prem Kumar, best known for the acclaimed Tamil dramas 96 and Meiyazhagan, has revealed that he is preparing to direct Fahadh Faasil in a new Tamil project. The director hinted at the collaboration during an interview with a Tamil YouTube channel, noting that the film will be an action thriller — a departure from his earlier reputation for crafting heartwarming stories.
“Many people advised me not to take on an action thriller, since I am associated with more emotional narratives. But that was exactly why I wanted to pursue it,” he said. Prem Kumar added that Fahadh’s enthusiasm gave him confidence to move forward: “I narrated just 45 minutes of the story to Fahadh sir, and his excitement convinced me to proceed. This will be a straight Tamil film and his first outing as a solo lead in the language. We plan to begin shooting in January.”
Prem Kumar, who started his career as a cinematographer, rose to prominence with 96, later remade in Telugu as Jaanu. Although rumours circulated about a sequel to 96, he denied such plans.
For Fahadh, this marks another significant Tamil venture after Maareesan with Vadivelu, Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth, Maamannan with Vadivelu, and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram, all of which cemented his popularity with Tamil audiences.
