Cheaters are the bane of any FPS player’s existence, and in a game as hardcore and challenging as Rainbow Six Siege, that’s doubly-true. Over the years, Ubisoft has made countless changes and improvements to its anti-cheat and its code of conduct, it’s just made a few more adjustments that show it isn’t playing around.
At the start of the latest season, Operation Collision Point, Ubisoft pledged to introduce a new system that would ban Rainbow Six Siege cheaters as soon as they were detected, even in the middle of matches, and end the game there and then. If the match did end because a cheater was uncovered in the FPS game, innocent players would not lose any MMR if they were playing in Ranked. By just terminating the match immediately, rather than waiting for it to end, Ubisoft now avoids the tricky process of ‘MMR rollback,’ which reinstates or strips players of MMR that was earned or lost in matches affected by cheaters.
Now, this feature is up running, and it’s having immediate results, with plenty of clips surfacing online of matches being suddenly halted after a cheater was detected and banned.
Ubisoft is also getting much stricter as it continues to clamp down on botting, the art of running scripts to queue into matches and perform some rudimentary actions in order to farm Renown while you’re AFK. Previously, anyone caught botting would be suspended from Siege for 15 days, and if they were caught again, it’d be a permanent ban from the game.
Now, Ubisoft is done giving warnings. Botters will be permanently banned on their first offense. The developer says it escalated things for two reasons. One, the community has been asking for harsher punishments against botters. And two, the work it has done improving its detection systems now “drastically reduces false positives” and mistaken bans.
A new update to Siege also adds “a new round of hardening and security updates” that promises “major disruption and impact on the most prevalent cheat providers.”
