Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer, new mobile game announced at Pokémon Presents showcase

A new trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the upcoming game in the Pokemon video game series, was revealed at the Pokemon Presents showcase. This new title is being developed by Game Freak. The trailer provided a look at the game’s setting and demonstrated gameplay mechanics. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch in late 2025. At the same Pokemon Presents presentation, The Pokemon Company also announced Pokemon Champions, a separate game focused on battling for both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

Pokemon Legends Z-A: Availability

The game won’t launch until the end of the year, so Pokemon fans have to wait some more. The game will be released for the original Switch, even though the Switch 2 is expected to be available by then. However, it’s important to note that the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, meaning the game will run on both consoles.

What Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer reveals

The latest trailer for the sequel to the acclaimed Pokemon Legends: Arceus unveils the vast Lumiose City, which originally debuted in Pokemon X and Y back in 2013. This metropolis, filled with towering skyscrapers, is a contrast to the countryside of Arceus.
The trailer also highlights the three starter Pokemon players can choose from: Chikorita and Totodile from Gen 2, along with Tepig from Gen 5.
Additionally, the gameplay appears to blend Arceus’ real-time capture mechanics with the classic turn-based battles of traditional Pokemon games.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also reintroduce Mega Evolutions, a feature that temporarily transforms Pokemon into powerful forms with boosted stats. This mechanic, much like the game’s setting, originally appeared in Pokemon X and Y.

Pokemon Champions mobile game announced

Apart from the trailer, the Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Champions, a battle-focused game for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
It will feature familiar battle mechanics, integration with Pokemon Home, multiple game modes and cross-platform play. The game is still in development with no confirmed release date.
The Pokemon Presents showcase, which was a part of Pokemon Day celebrations, also revealed updates for several existing titles, including Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Pokemon Go, Pokemon Sleep, and more. Additionally, upcoming Pokemon games will now be localised in Latin American Spanish, the company announced.
