Baseball is back in Washington this week with the Nationals’ home opener against Philly on Thursday.

Going to any professional sports game can be pricey so 7News spoke with the Nationals’ Chief Marketing Officer about some ways you can save on the games this year.

“Tuesday nights, we’ll have very discounted tickets, where they start as low as $12. We’ll have $5 hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels and also a $5 beer that’s available on Tuesday night,” said Kimberly Bolt.

And Tuesday night games will start earlier at 6:45, so families can get their kids home by 9:30 on average.

Also, look for price breaks on tickets for workers who serve.

“We have a standing 40% offer for anybody that is serving in the military or for public school teachers… health care workers, government employees, first responders, those are the folks that we have this evergreen 40% off ticket offer, and that does include concessions credit,” said Bolt.

If you live in D.C., $5 tickets to select games are back.

There is also a $5 happy hour for beer and $6 for hard seltzer before every home game. And Sunday games are a great day to take the kids.

“Our Sundays are what we call family fun days. We have a Kid Zone play area. We have a family picnic area on the days where we also have those kids’ giveaways. And we have five kids giveaways this year, and on those days, we will also have story time, where a player or alumni will actually read to children. And then every Sunday game, we actually have kids run the basis, where after the game, kids can run on the field. And then we also have signature Sundays, where kids can actually get signatures from current players,” said Bolt. “We’ll also bring in face painters, caricature artists, as well as balloon artists.”

For a double bang for your buck, come for a game and stay for a free concert.

“We have six of those this year. Very exciting. OAR will be coming on May 9, Nelly, Ja Rule and Ashanti, Sam Hunt, Riley Green. It’s a great lineup,” said Bolt.

This is the Nats’ 20th year, so look for promotional giveaways related to the anniversary, including replica T-shirts, bobbleheads and team rings.

“We will have five promotional giveaways related to the 20th anniversary, and we have a big blowout weekend, April, 4 and fifth, where … we’ve commissioned a custom ring, and we’re going to give out 20,000 of those. But within the allotment of 20,000 rings, we’ll have 20 real rings that are valued at about $6,000 apiece,” said Bolt.

Also, there’s discounted parking for Tuesday night games in Lot- W.

Starting in May, kids under 12 can eat free. The best way to find out about all these deals is to sign up for the Nats’ fan club here.
