Calls for boycotting Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ were made on ‘X’ as the trailer of the Aamir Khan Productions venture dropped on YouTube on May 13.
It’s only been a few hours since the trailer of the much-anticipated ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ dropped online and calls for boycotting Aamir Khan’s latest outing have already started garnering traction on social media platform ‘X’. The Bollywood perfectionist returns to the screen after ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ (2022), the Hindi remake of ‘Forrest Gump’, which failed to strike the chord with the movie goers. Touted as the “spiritual” sequel of 2007’s endearing ‘Taare Zameen Par’ that followed the everyday life and struggles of a boy with undiagnosed learning difficulties, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ sees Khan ditching the role of teacher for a basketball coach who has been sentenced by the court to train a team of intellectually disabled players.
The comments under the upcoming movie are all about love and acceptance while Khan has been praised for making a movie about people with intellectual disabilities that could perhaps bring a similar cultural shift in the society and start a dialogue that ‘Taare Zameen Par’ could achieve.
So why exactly a well-meaning movie, made under Khan’s highly-successful banner Aamir Khan Productions, is facing heat and boycott on ‘X’?

Photos of “Boycott” slapped on the poster of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ along with the now-trending hashtag #BoycottSitaareZameenPar were circulated on blogging website ‘X’.
A few online commentators also shared pics of Aamir Khan photographed with Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan back in 2020 during his visit.
Khan visited the country to shoot some portions of his movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and was subjected to online flak even back then as Turkey shared a friendly bond with Pakistan.

Indian citizens have taken a strong and vocal stance against Turkey after the country publicly supported Pakistan when the Indian Armed Forces responded with a series of missile strikes on terror camps in Pak and PoK under “Operation Sindoor” on May 7. India’s retaliation came a couple of weeks after 26 innocent tourists were massacred in Pahalgam on April 22. The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan also made Indians turn their backs on Turkish Airlines in an online protest.

Aamir Khan Speaks On Pahalgam
Not the one to shy away from speaking his mind, Khan recently broke his silence on the horrific Pahalgam attack saying the country wanted justice and he had full faith in the Indian government.
The actor said: “Humein justice chahiye… Aur hum chahte hain ki aage aisa na ho, toh uske liye kadam uthaya jaaye (We want justice… and we want steps to be taken to ensure that this does not happen again).”
The ‘Dangal’ actor further added: “Mujhe yakeen hai ki sarkar aise saare kadam uthayegi jahan humein justice mile. Jinhone ye jo galat kaam kiya hai, they should be brought to justice (I am sure that the government will take all the necessary steps so that we get justice. Those who have done the wrong, they should be brought to justice).”

Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Resonates
YouTube, where the official trailer of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ dropped on Tuesday, was far more forgiving. The trailer that has been viewed over 13 million times in a span of 12 hours, resonated far and wide with the audiences.
“The best thing about this movie is that they have casted real people. No one is acting to be a down syndrome or an autistic. That’s so refreshing to watch, (sic)” noted one commenter.
“1st PART: A student gets fixed by an extraordinary teacher.
2nd PART: A teacher gets fixed by some extraordinary Students,” quipped another.
“My Daughter is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Film like this so inspiring for parents like us. I am so much thankful to God for choosing me to take care of my angel daughter. Thank you Amir sir for bringing focus and awareness on this topic. Child is not disabled, they are just different and very very special, (sic)” a third user shared.
“My son is on autism spectrum , the trailer made me cry and laugh at the same time. Hope this movie brings some awareness and respect for children’s and individuals who are with special needs .. all the best, (sic)” penned down a fourth viewer.
