Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy began streaming on Netflix at the start of April, and to the surprise of no one, the films were an instant hit on the biggest streamer in the world. This announcement came around the same time that Batman Begins celebrated its 20th anniversary. However, nothing good lasts forever – Netflix has confirmed that all three of Nolan’s Batman movies, which star Christian Bale as The Dark Knight, will leave the streamer on May 31. That means fans have just over a week to watch Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises on Netflix. However, all three films are still streaming on HBO Max, and Warner Bros. has not announced plans for any of them to depart the platform anytime soon.
Although it’s Christian Bale who leads the ensemble with his stunning performance as Bruce Wayne, Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is jam-packed with stars. Few comic book heroes have a rogue’s gallery of villains as impressive as Batman, and Nolan recruited three stars to play the antagonists in all three films. Cillian Murphy plays Scarecrow in Batman Begins, followed by Heath Ledger’s enduring performance as Joker in The Dark Knight, and Tom Hardy’s cryptic and terrifying portrayal of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises is still talked about to this day. Morgan Freeman also features in all three Batman movies as Lucius Fox, Bruce Wayne’s cohort whom he relies on for all of his technology and gear. Michael Caine can also be seen in Nolan’s Batman trilogy as Alfred, caretaker of Bruce and Wayne Manor. Caine passed on the role to Andy Serkis in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.
Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Will Be His Biggest
Christopher Nolan’s next movie began production earlier this year, and it’s undoubtedly going to be the most ambitious film of his career. Nolan will write and direct an adaptation of The Odyssey, which will see Matt Damon in the lead role of the legendary explorer, with Tom Holland starring alongside him. Nolan is known for having star-studded ensembles, but the cast he assembled for The Odyssey rivals any put together in film history. Starring alongside Holland and Damon are Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Cosmo Jarvis, Mia Goth, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, among many others.
All three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies will leave Netflix on May 31. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and watch the films while you can.
