Eve Online Legion expansion transforms the space MMO with a new missions system

Eve Online is something of an institution at this point. The famed space MMO first came out all the way back in 2003, but continued support from its creator and players means it still offers a vision of futuristic exploration compelling enough to rival newer projects like Star Citizen or No Man’s Sky. Now, in another example of developer CCP Games’ commitment to its long-running game, a new expansion called Legion has arrived, bringing with it a host of additions, tweaks, and a new missions system.

Keeping an MMORPG relevant for more than two decades can’t be easy, but Eve Online accomplishes this by rethinking and adding to its already staggeringly in-depth design. Legion does so by introducing a pair of new warships for players to experiment with, a range of customizable color palettes used to set each corporation apart from one another, reworked visuals for ships and the game map, as well as a wide-ranging balancing rework.

Perhaps the most welcome aspect of the expansion is Legion’s new player-created Freelance Jobs system, which allows players to easily find direct ways to strengthen their corporation through a wide variety of missions. Considering how intimidating it can be to start out in Eve Online, these missions should be especially useful for those eager to both learn the ropes of playing the game and start contributing directly to a corporation.
