New Project Zomboid mod adds huge new map with five towns and 1,700 buildings

Even after 12 years of Project Zomboid, we don’t know very much at all about the world beyond Knox Country. Pay close attention to the radio and TV broadcasts, and it sounds like the undead plague has spread across the entire planet. But with all communications off air before mid July, and then the inevitable power cuts, it’s impossible to truly understand just how screwed the final, spiked-bat-wielding survivors truly are. With The Indie Stone still hard at work on the unstable iteration of build 42, and new, official updates that include ragdoll physics and an improved camera, a gigantic Project Zomboid mod casts an eye away from Knox and over to France. Essentially an unofficial PZ spin-off, unfortunately, the situation in Europe is just as bleak.

While the base survival game is expansive and versatile, Project Zomboid mods are essential if you want to remain fed, armed, and, above all, unbitten. Build 42 is still in the works and, thanks to the latest update, looking better than ever. But if you want an alternative Project Zomboid experience (and you’re comfortable with remaining in build 41) then ‘Project France,’ by the modder ‘Grox,’ is ideal.

A new standalone map. Five separate towns. 1,700 buildings. An entire catalogue of fresh items and cars. Essentially, this a full, fan-made Zomboid expansion. As you’ve surely guessed, it’s set in France during the initial weeks of the outbreak. Huge apartment buildings, luxurious hotels, and ransacked urban amenities are yours to explore, but standing in your way are some truly Louisville-sized hordes. It’s the traditional Zomboid experience, but in an entirely new open world.

While it’s currently exclusive to build 41, Grox says that a build 42 version of Project France is already in the works. Totally free and available on Steam Workshop, you can get the mod right here.

Otherwise, you might want to try some of the other best zombie games, or the best open-world games on PC.
