FIFA Club World Cup will set stage for big things in United States

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is nearly here, with a long-awaited expanded format finally kicking off this month at stadiums across the United States.
The Club World Cup has been massively expanded, functioning as a de facto dry run for the 2026 World Cup. 32 teams, most of whom have won their continent’s biggest prize for men’s club soccer, will battle it out in a tournament that largely resembles the format seen in the 2023 World Cup.
MLS will be represented by Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, LAFC (who over the weekend earned the final berth in the tournament in dramatic fashion), and the Seattle Sounders. All three will be underdogs in this event, especially with European giants like newly-crowned Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, Premier League duo Manchester City and Chelsea, and long-standing powers like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Juventus all in the mix.
Here is what to know ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, including a schedule, how to watch the games, and a list of participants and groups:
2025 Club World Cup: When is FIFA tournament?
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, with its new, massively expanded format, will run from June 14 to July 13, 2025 at locations spread throughout the United States.
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are set play in the opening match, which will see the MLS contenders take on Egyptian club Al-Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. at 8 p.m. ET. The tournament final is scheduled to be held on July 13 at 3 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
