Euro Truck Simulator 2 dev confirms coaches as an entirely new way to play

Back in May, SCS Software shared a 22-second video of a coach pulling out from behind a big rig in Euro Truck Simulator 2, and it sent the community into a frenzy. That’s because players have been asking for coaches in ETS2 for years, even going as far as to mod them in themselves instead of waiting. Now, SCS has finally confirmed that coaches are in development, and they’re definitely a game changer.

SCS is calling it ‘Project Coaches,’ and this is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of hauling cargo across Euro Truck Simulator 2, you’ll be a coach driver transporting rowdy families and retired pensioners throughout the simulation game. “While we’re still early in the development process, many elements are still evolving behind the scenes,” SCS Software writes.

“We’ve already begun laying the foundation, from creating several coach models with characteristic handling to developing a network of bus terminals across the map (which many of you have noticed for a long time now). We’re even reworking some older coach station prefabs from the ground up to better fit this new gameplay.”

SCS also makes it clear that its work on Project Coaches won’t impede the rest of its plans. A dedicated team is creating the new system, so the rest of the studio’s ideas for trucks, map expansions, and core ETS2 content aren’t being sidelined. In fact, SCS just announced that Iceland is an upcoming expansion that the team’s working on, so if coaches aren’t for you, don’t worry.

All this work on ETS2 doesn’t mean SCS has forgotten about American Truck Simulator, either. Earlier this year the team announced ‘Project Road Trip,’ which will introduce a load of new vehicles besides the iconic 18-wheeler. You can take control of a pickup truck or sports car, and explore the simulated US from a new perspective. SCS adds that it’s potentially working on “fresh gameplay opportunities” for these cars, so you won’t just be driving around aimlessly.
