FromSoftware’s games are known for being tough, from Demon’s Souls all the way to Elden Ring, with the cry of “Git gud!” bandied about whenever anyone grumbles. But what if you wished they were even harder? That’s where Elden Ring Nightreign’s new feature comes in, adding a super-tough new Everdark Sovereign boss on a weekly rotating basis.
Yes, you read that right. Co-op Soulslike Elden Ring Nightreign, from the developer that spawned the subgenre, is getting even more challenging. If that has you quaking in your blood-spattered boots, don’t worry. These new bosses are strictly optional, available only if you’ve defeated their original incarnations. But if you have been craving more of a challenge, beyond the original Elden Ring Nightreign bosses, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Dubbed Everdark Sovereigns, these new bosses will arrive on a weekly basis. Once that week’s over they’ll be replaced by another Everdark Sovereign. You’ll also have to be playing in online mode to access these bosses, which is a smart move on FromSoftware’s part. Elden Ring Nightreign is heavily co-op focused, so the more it can do to maintain a healthy player base, the better.
The first boss is Adel, Baron of the Night (Gaping Jaw), and they’re available to battle until June 26. In theory, a trio will have a better chance of defeating them than someone playing Elden Ring Nightreign in single player. But don’t think it’s just a case of chipping away more energy. FromSoftware confirms that these bosses won’t just be more powerful, they’ll also boast new moves. We wouldn’t put it past From to give some of these menaces a third phase.

Following on from Adel, you’ll have the chance to take on the Everdark Sovereign versions of Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight. Superpowered versions of Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast and Fissure in the Fog will also drop later.
