Rematch, a multiplayer-focused soccer-sim from the developer of Sifu, is wiping the floor with the competition. This five-a-side footie game launched just a day ago and it’s already hit a peak of 92,841 concurrent Steam players. That’s 30,000 more than are playing EA Sports FC 25, the game’s closest competitor.
Should the competition be worried that football game Rematch is storming to victory? Could this be the end for EA’s post-FIFA EA Sports FC line? Probably not, because EA’s own games remain hugely profitable. But if you’re a football fan, developer Sloclap has delivered a unique alternative to that series.
Rematch’s beta exploded on Steam, a solid sign that it was going to do well. What makes Rematch stand out, aside from the fact it’s five-a-side football, is its simplicity. As a more arcade-style take on the sport, there are no offside, no fouls, nothing to unexpectedly halt play.
On top of that, you’re just one of five players so teamwork is essential. As we said in our Rematch tips and tricks guide, “There’s nothing worse than a selfish player who keeps the ball to themselves and pretends they’re prime Ronaldinho.” Don’t be that player, remember to pass.
The one snag with Rematch, which is also available on console, is that it has no crossplay as yet. Developer Sloclap has, however, stated Rematch’s crossplay is coming and it’s a top priority.

You can expect Rematch’s concurrent player count to spike when players can team up with their PlayStation and Xbox pals. Rematch’s beta alone attracted nearly two million players, so it’s shaping up to be a stunning goal for Sloclap.
