The next game in the beloved Lumines puzzle series drops this November. Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite developer Enhance announced the release date for Lumines Arise on Tuesday, sweetening the announcement with the surprise launch of a playable demo, which is available now on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
Lumines Arise‘s limited-time demo will be available from Aug. 26 to Sept. 3. The demo includes three single-player Journey Mode stages and the multiplayer Burst Battle mode, which builds on Lumines Arise‘s new Burst mechanic. In short, using the Burst mechanic stops a matched square of blocks from clearing, letting players build it bigger and bigger until a timer runs out. In single-player, clearing that Burst-boosted square means big combos and big points; in multiplayer, it also means sending junk blocks to your opponent. (Think of it as a close cousin to Tetris Effect‘s Zone mechanic.)
Lumines Arise is the first game in the franchise since 2018’s Lumines Remastered, and the first all-new entry on consoles since 2012’s Lumines: Electronic Symphony. Arise builds on the classic 2×2 block-dropping, music-infused gameplay of previous games, and gives it an updated presentation.
Enhance will release Lumines Arise on Nov. 11 on PS5 and Windows PC via Steam. The game’s standard edition goes for $39.99, with a digital deluxe edition available for $44.99. The latter includes special avatars and name plates, including cosmetics based on Enhance’s Rez Infinite and Tetris Effect, and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Astro Bot.
