First-person tactical shooter Ready or Not has sold an astounding 13 million copies across all formats, since hitting Steam Early Access back in December, 2021. It casts you as SWAT office in a city where crime is on the rise, and hostage taking is the bad guys’ bread and butter. However, while developer Void Interactive is no doubt happy about this milestone, Ready or Not is only just recovering from a controversy that saw it vigorously review bombed.

Ready or Not?

Void Interactive certainly is, and they’re celebrating after their tactical shooter sold thirteen million copies, across all formats. Exiting Steam Early Access in December 2023, this SWAT-based

Of those 13 million sales, a good chunk come from Ready or Not’s recent console release. This tactical FPS game made the leap to those platforms on July 15, and has sold three million copies in less than two months. However, the move wasn’t without some controversy, and a little still lingers.

Ready or Not was review bombed back in July, when developer Void Interactive revealed it was making some cuts to meet console content ratings. The cuts seemed relatively minor, including dropping the ability to dismember enemies post-mortem, and the removal of some nudity. However, the backlash was enough to send its ‘Recent Reviews’ rating plummeting to Mostly Negative.

Subsequently, Void Interactive issued a statement over Ready or Not’s cuts, blaming “misconceptions and misinformation”. The game’s ratings are on its way back up, with the game currently sitting at Mostly Positive. However, there’s still an influx of negative reviews, albeit a lower proportion than when the changes were announced.

A significant number are about what they perceive as censorship. But others are complaining about Ready or Not receiving an apparent visual downgrade. Void Interactive has identified a bug that caused low textures to appear, according to August’s patch notes, but some players state they are still encountering the issue.  Hopefully any remaining occurrences will get squashed shortly.

Despite this, there’s no shortage of edge-of-your-seat SWAT action, whether you’re playing solo with bots or teaming up with some of RoN’s 13m purchasers. A recent Ready or Not update added in two new difficulty modes and two new missions, and if you want to shake things up a little more, there are plenty of Ready or Not mods to investigate.
