Several carmakers on Monday joined the trend of cutting prices to pass on the benefits of reduced goods and services tax (GST) rates to potential customers.

The cuts, which will take effect on September 22, are expected to revitalise car sales during the crucial festive season through December, and the rest of the fiscal year.

Kia India said it would reduce prices by Rs 48,513 to Rs 4.48 lakh, with the multipurpose vehicle Carnival getting the steepest cut. “We welcome the government’s visionary citizen-centric reforms… In line with this vision, we are proud to pass on the full benefit of GST rate reductions to our customers,” said Gwanggu Lee, MD & CEO, Kia India.

JSW MG Motor India also rolled out price reductions ranging from Rs 54,000 to Rs 3.04 lakh, effective September 7.

TVS Motor Company said it would extend benefits of the lower duties across its ICE range, describing the rate rationalisation as “a bold and transformative move that will accelerate consumption.”
Luxury carmaker Lexus announced the sharpest savings, with prices down by Rs 1.47 lakh on the ES 300h sedan and up to Rs 20.8 lakh on the flagship LX 500d SUV.
