Sarabhai vs Sarabhai has etched a special place in the hearts of television viewers in India. The classic Indian sitcom, with its characters, dialogues, and unfiltered comedy, was one of the most popular shows from 2004 to 2006.
Now, Rajesh Kumar, aka Rosesh Sarabhai, has revealed how he was ragged by his co-stars, especially Satish Shah.
Rajesh Kumar’s character as the younger son of the upper-class Sarabhai family was often a subject of jokes, especially by his father, Indravadan Sarabhai (played by Satish Shah) and elder brother, Dr Sahil Sarabhai (played by Sumeet Raghavan). Even behind the scenes of the show, Rajesh revealed the dynamics were no different.
Rajesh Kumar Reveals Being Trolled By Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Co-Stars
Rajesh Kumar recently appeared on the YouTube channel Be You With Shraddha S, where he opened up about working as a young actor alongside stalwarts in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Reflecting on his iconic role, he said, “Rosesh worked because of the reactions. It wasn’t just the way he spoke or his attitude. The magic happened because of how Ratna Pathak Shah or Satish Shah responded to him.”
“Even today, when I’m around the five of them, I instantly become Rosesh because they still treat me like him. If I forward something in our WhatsApp group, no matter what it is, they still troll me–especially Satish ji.”
Rajesh Kumar On His Bond With Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Co-Stars
Talking about how Satish still treats him the same way he did in the serial, Rajesh shared, “Satish ji still says, ‘Tu chup reh, tu toh bol hi mat,’ and I just go quiet. I tell him, ‘Kaka, I’m 50 now!’ and he replies, ‘So what? You will always be our Rosesh.’”
He continued, “Till date, we call each other by the same names–Ratna ji is still ‘Moma,’ she calls me ‘Roshu,’ Rupali calls me ‘Roshu Bhaiya,’ Sumeet is ‘Bade’ and I’m ‘Chote.’ With Satish ji, I say ‘Dad’ or ‘Kaka.’ After the shoot, our bond only grew stronger. We can truly say we are a Sarabhai family.”
Rajesh Kumar Reveals When He Got Extremely Emotional With Satish Shah’s Behaviour
Recalling one emotional incident from the shooting days, Rajesh said, “There was this one scene where I had to deliver a 1.5-page dialogue about the activities I did while being an insomniac. I kept forgetting the lines–we did at least eight takes. Satish ji got angry and said, ‘Call me when he remembers his lines.’ The way he said it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t tell if it was anger, insult, or just ragging. After that, I went to my director and asked for some time. Even now, I remind Satish ji that he once made me cry, but he never agrees.”
