Leader of Opposition and DMK convenor R. Siva has raised with Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan the issue of contaminated drinking water in some parts of the city that led to hospitalisation of residents.
In a statement, Mr. Siva said the Chief Secretary had informed him that the water contamination reported in Nellithope area had been rectified.
The DMK leader was informed that the administration had put in place measures to find a permanent solution to avoid such incidents in future, the statement added.
Mr. Siva, who was accompanied by R. Senthil Kumar, MLA, also flagged residents’ complaints relating to garbage pile-ups at several sites in the city during the meeting. Part of the issue was because the new agency that had taken over the collection and disposal of solid waste had not deployed adequate number of vehicles and sanitary staff, he said.
The DMK leaders were assured that the agency would be directed to address the issues, the press statement said.
The delay in implementation of rural road projects and non-supply of PDS rice that badly hit the poor were also raised at the meeting. The official stated that both issues would be speedily addressed, the statement said.
