Filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar’s first wife, costume designer Deepa Mehta, has died. The news was confirmed by their son, actor Satya Manjrekar, who shared an emotional note on social media. His post quickly drew an outpouring of condolences from colleagues and friends in the Marathi film industry.
On Instagram Stories, Satya expressed his grief with a simple yet moving line: “I miss you Mumma,” accompanied by a heart and pigeon emoji. Several industry acquaintances also remembered Deepa with heartfelt tributes.
In a different post shared on Monday, he also shared a portrait of himself with his mother.

Deepa was recognised for her work in costume design as well as her entrepreneurial venture, Queen of Hearts, a saree brand that carved its own identity in the Marathi film space.
Deepa and Mahesh Manjrekar, who met during college, married in 1987 and had two children, Ashwami and Satya. The couple parted ways in 1995, with their children remaining with Mahesh. Following the separation, Mahesh married actor Medha Manjrekar, with whom he has a daughter, actor Saiee Manjrekar, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in ‘Dabangg 3’.
