Railway Safety: Amid the upcoming festive season, Indian Railways (IR) has implemented several measures to enhance passenger safety and manage heavy crowds. To prevent any untoward incidents, the national transporter has recently completed the construction of a permanent holding area at New Delhi Railway Station.

Similar holding areas have also been developed at other major stations, including Bandra Terminus, Udhna and Surat, to ensure smoother passenger movement during peak travel periods.

Indian Railways Safety Measures

In addition, the Ministry of Railways has advised passengers not to carry six specific items while travelling by train. The directive aims to ensure safe and secure travel during the festive season.

Indian Railways Prohibited Items

“Passengers are requested not to carry firecrackers or any inflammable items in trains,” the Ministry of Railways said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

These six prohibited items are:

  • Firecrackers
  • Kerosene oil
  • Gas cylinder
  • Stove
  • Matchbox
  • Cigarette

“Carrying firecrackers or inflammable items is dangerous and can cause accidents,” it said.

Last year, with the aim of preventing accidents and crimes, RPF has issued a comprehensive safety advisory to safeguard passengers travelling in railways. These are as follows:

  • Report any firecrackers, inflammable items, or suspicious objects or individuals on trains or at stations immediately to RPF/GRP personnel or Railway Authorities.
  • Keep your valuables close and in sight.
  • Travel light and choose digital payments for added safety.
  • Ensure children are always accompanied by adults.
  • Pay attention to announcements and follow railway staff instructions.
