“He actually said that he would be into it, ‘If Woody and I think it’s good enough. It wouldn’t even be a choice,’ ” Dreyer said of Harrelson’s costar McConaughey, 55, who played Det. Rust Cohle on the series.

“Matthew’s so funny, but in fairness, never,” Harrelson said when asked if he’d return. “Not a chance.”

The series won five Emmy Awards for Harrelson and McConaughey’s season and earned both leading men Emmy nominations for their roles. They also picked up Golden Globe nods for their performances.

Harrelson explained that he didn’t want to reprise the role, “Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did. If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.”

After Harrelson and McConaughey’s season of True Detective, many other actors have starred in the anthology series including Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali, Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, Jodie Foster and many more.

However, Harrelson does plan to return to the screen with McConaughey soon.

“We are doing something together and this is a comedy, half-hour, and hopefully people dig it,” Harrelson said without confirming what the project in question is.

Harrelson and McConaughey are set to appear as themselves in the upcoming series, Brother From Another Mother, which follows the two actors as they attempt to live together on McConaughey’s Texas ranch.

The series is set to air on Apple TV, but no release date has been announced.
