Remedy Entertainment’s weirdo magnum opus, Alan Wake 2, was met with widespread critical acclaim when it released in 2023, thanks to its creative storytelling and engrossing atmosphere. However, it didn’t exactly set the sales charts on fire, selling only 1 million copies against its reported €70 million (roughly $76 million USD in 2023) budget and marketing costs. Years of positive word-of-mouth seem to have turned this situation around.

In Remedy’s half-year financial report for January to June 2026, the company announced that Alan Wake 2 has exceeded 3 million sales. The last update was that it had passed 2 million copies sold in February 2025; at that point, the game finally began to turn a profit. Part of the slow growth likely stems from Alan Wake 2 still being an Epic Games Store exclusive on Windows PC (Epic published and helped fund the game).

Outside the Alan Wake news, the original Control continued to sell well, having hit 5 million sales as of a year ago. Remedy cited Control Resonant’s upcoming Sept. 24, 2026 launch as pivotal for the company, and noted that the game currently has over 1.5 million wishlists across all platforms.

Remedy has recently gone through relatively tumultuous times due to the disappointing launch of its live-service tie-in with Control, FBC: Firebreak. The company issued a “profit warning” after the game underperformed its internal sales metrics. Over the last six months, Remedy has had a 23.1% decrease in revenue. On March 1, 2026, Jean-Charles Gaudechon was appointed the new CEO of the company, prompting concerns that he would clamp down on the studio’s artistic whims due to his previous work at both EA and a sports betting company. Gaudechon’s comments that Alan Wake and Control “should have sold more” didn’t exactly help assuage these fears.

While Remedy seems to be in decent shape at the moment, considering it hasn’t conducted a major layoff since 2020, the company’s continued well-being likely rests on the success of Control Resonant. The game has left a strong impression on those who tried it so far, leaving ample room for excitement over what’s next from one of the industry’s most creative studios.
