There’s more than one way to cause damage in Wardogs, and while being an excellent shot will help with the boots-on-the-ground infantry skirmishes, there is another way. If you have a secure FOB and enough supplies, you can build a mortar and rain explosives down on the enemy from relative safety.
To get started with a mortar, you’ll want to make sure you have enough Wardogs money in your account, as you’ll need supplies and a rather large hammer. Although I’m sure you’re itching to get your hands on this bit of artillery, it’s always best to make sure your forward operating base is built and secure before moving on to offence.

How to build a Wardogs mortar
To build a mortar in Wardogs, you need the Large Hammer and supplies either on your person or in the FOB. The mortar is only available to support players who are at least level eight, as that is when the highest tier of hammer is unlocked.
Once the mortar is built, you need to keep it supplied with ammunition – this, like building supplies, is purchased from the spawn base – so make sure you either have some in your inventory or politely ask your pilot teammates to drop some off.
How to use the mortar
There are two things you need to adjust before firing the mortar: heading and range. The heading is the direction you want to shoot, and the range is how far your mortar shell will travel. There is no map overlay, so you’ll want to look at your map before you jump in, mark enemies, and figure out how far away they are.
Your camera follows the mortar round the entire way, so pay attention to the area surrounding the explosion, as that will make it much easier to make micro-adjustments for the next volley. You can use WASD to adjust the aiming of the mortar, then use your mouse for smaller tweaks.
Now that you know how to build a mortar in Wardogs, you can aid your teammates with close fire support and flush those camping snipers off that Wardogs tower. Watch your back while aiming, though, because if those snipers have a view of you, they will take advantage of it.
