Baldur’s Gate 3 already gives you plenty to do, but one new mod gives your party another adventure to tackle. Over a year since its initial teaser, the Baldur’s Gate 3: Act Two Expansion mod has entered beta, adding a new region, quests, dungeons, enemies, and more to the journey toward Act 3.
The mod comes from ‘SquallyDaBeanz’ and takes place after you leave the Shadow-Cursed Lands but before you reach Baldur’s Gate. If you’re new to Baldur’s Gate 3, that’s the section of the game where Act 2 ends and your party prepares to enter the final major area of the story. Instead of heading straight into Act 3, the RPG mod sends you into the Chionthar Wilds.
This added region aims to match the scale of the Act 1 Wilderness and focuses heavily on exploration and combat, with the content balanced around parties between levels eight and ten. After leaving Reithwin, cross the bridge near the ‘Road to Baldur’s Gate’ waypoint. The mod replaces the usual transition into Act 3 with the Chionthar Wilds, allowing you to continue your adventure without starting a separate save.
You can still return to the Shadow-Cursed Lands after entering the new area, but don’t assume you can go back forever. The expansion eventually introduces a point of no return that moves you into Act 3. The game warns you before this happens, giving you a chance to complete any unfinished business.
Like any fan-made content, this beta does come with some rough edges. SquallyDaBeanz warns that bugs can cause softlocks, particularly when moving into Act 3, so regular saves are a good idea. You should also finish outstanding camp events before starting the expansion’s finale. The mod also doesn’t try to replicate Baldur’s Gate 3’s famously reactive design philosophy. Its quests and encounters follow a more linear structure instead.
Even so, the expansion already offers a substantially fresh chunk of content for Baldur’s Gate 3, and its planned 1.0 release aims to make it even bigger and more polished with improved writing, finished cutscenes, new classes and race-specific dialogue, combat improvements, boss reworks, additional Legendary Actions, and bug fixes. Is it one of the best Baldur’s Gate 3 mods? You can download it here and decide for yourself.
