Grand Theft Auto 6 is only going to be toppled by one thing, and that’s GTA 6 Online. The multiplayer portion of the cultural phenomenon, if it’s anything like its predecessor, will eclipse the single-player by quite some margin and make Rockstar more money than god in the process. It’s a one-size-fits-all multiplayer experience where players can join roleplay servers and live another life, cause chaos with strangers, or jump into heists with their friends.
We’re still waiting for GTA 6, but that hasn’t stopped fans from craving the social side of the multiplayer game. Last time, we had only two weeks between GTA 5 and its online component, but things are different now, and it looks like we’re going to have to wait a fair bit longer before we amble about Leonidas with our mates.
When is GTA 6 Online out?
We estimate that GTA 6 Online will launch in July of 2027. This comes from a recent interview with Dan Clancey, Twitch CEO, who recently gave an interview to Bloomberg, saying, “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
This time around, Rockstar has a lot more to think about with GTA 6 Online. This isn’t a new game mode, and GTA 5 Online already makes a ton of money (presumably this will drop off a little post-November), so easing that audience into something new is going to require a fair bit of planning. There’s also the delay of the single-player game, with avoiding any extra crunch being important for both the experience and the well-being of the developers.
It could very well be that the GTA 6 PC release date lines up with GTA 6 Online, which would be very good news for us and would mean that those playing on PC would get the most complete experience at launch.
