I’ve spent years wondering whether we’ll ever get a proper Star Wars Battlefront 3, and now two separate rumors have me dusting off my old blaster. First, a report suggests Disney is looking for a studio to take on the long-awaited next entry. Now, the CEO of Wardogs developer Bulkhead Games claims that EA Dice and Respawn Entertainment are working on it.
Joe Brammer claims in a recent social media post that “[EA] Dice and, from what I’ve heard, Respawn are working on [Star Wars] Battlefront 3.” He adds that, if we assume this to be true, he’s “not sure what that means for Battlefield.” Brammer doesn’t elaborate on his source, and neither EA nor Lucasfilm has confirmed a new Star Wars Battlefront game. At least not yet.
It follows a report from GiantBomb’s Jeff Grubb, who revealed a rumor from the upcoming issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. The magazine’s mysterious Quarterman tipster claims Lucasfilm has been searching for a developer to make a new Battlefront game, with EA Dice the obvious candidate, having worked on the previous instalment. However, there’s another name in the mix.

“The Qman hears that if the Force is not entrusted to [EA] Dice, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny, and Marathon developer Bungie,” the report reads. Grubb adds that the game doesn’t appear to be in active development yet, but conversations about which studio should handle it are supposedly taking place. Brammer’s claim paints a slightly different picture, suggesting both EA Dice and Respawn could be involved.
There’s also the Battlefield-shaped elephant in the room. EA Dice is currently supporting Battlefield 6, while Respawn has other projects to juggle. EA’s exclusive Star Wars licensing deal ended in 2023, so a new Star Wars game isn’t out of the question. But until someone makes an official announcement, we’ll have to settle for rumors and hope this one doesn’t end up frozen in carbonite.
