It’s now looking like one of the worst-kept secrets in the tech world, but AMD has finally teased a glimpse of what looks like the new AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU. The company says it plans to reveal “what’s next in gaming” at the Computex tradeshow on May 21, along with an image that contains a render of a new graphics card next to the AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series logo.

According to the latest Radeon RX 9060 XT specs rumors, the new GPU will come in both 8GB and 16GB configurations, with a top clock speed of 3.3GHz and 2,048 stream processors. As I found in my Radeon RX 9070 XT review, the new AMD RDNA 4 architecture can offer potent performance, making it the best graphics card in its league, so I’ll be interested to see how this new, cheaper AMD GPU holds up.

There’s an important line of small print in the image, however, which states that the image is an “artistic render” that is “not available for purchase.” This suggests that AMD won’t be making a reference model of the Radeon RX 9060 XT, and will instead rely on its board partners to make all the cards. The company adopted a similar strategy with the Radeon RX 9070 launch, with only third-party graphics cards being available to buy.

The render does give us a little indication of what to expect, though. It only has a single 8-pin power connector, for example, suggesting that it won’t draw anywhere near as much power as the Radeon RX 9070 XT. It also only has two fans on its cooler and looks quite compact, fitting into just two slots.

Whether this new GPU succeeds will largely depend on pricing, of course, and while AMD’s Radeon RX 9070-series GPUs have great performance for their MSRPs, it’s hard to find the GPUs in stock at those prices, particularly in the US.

Anyway, there’s now only a week to wait until we know what AMD is going to be serving us in the budget GPU market. In the meantime, check out my RTX 5060 Ti review to see what the new AMD GPU is likely to be up against, as well as my tutorial on how to install a GPU.
