Sydney Thunder have received a huge boost on the eve of the Sydney Smash with star top-order batter Georgia Voll signing an extension with the club until at least the end of Weber WBBL|13.
It’s been a breakout year for the 22-year-old since her debut for Thunder in Weber WBBL|10. Following an incredible first season in the lime green, Voll went on to debut for Australia in all three formats, earned a call up to the WPL where she hit a record-equaling unbeaten 99, and was the number one pick in The Hundred draft.
Speaking on her re-signing, Voll said she’s excited to continue building with the Thunder group.
“I’m very happy to be staying put with Thunder,” said Voll.
“I’m grateful to both Copes [Trent Copeland, Thunder GM] and Lisa [Keightley, Thunder Head Coach] who have put their trust in me to take on more responsibility with both bat and ball this season.
“It’s been a tough start for us, but we know we’re building something really special. I can’t wait to get back to Drummoyne Oval tomorrow for the Sydney Smash in front of our Thunder Nation.
“There’s a clear direction and culture we’re building, and I’m really excited to see where this group can go over the next few years.”
Head Coach Lisa Keightley said Voll’s extension is an important step in the club’s development strategy.
“It’s really exciting to have one of Australia’s brightest young talents committing to the Thunder,” said Keightley.
“It’s a huge boost for us and sets the tone for where we’re heading as a club. To be able to build a squad around that kind of batting talent and potential is massive – it brings energy, belief, and a real sense that something special is building here.”
