Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka does not think that that his squad did itself any favors against Portugal as time was ticking away on the team’s chances to make the UEFA Nations League final per ZDF (via kicker):

Even after Cristiano Ronaldo made it 2-1, the German national team didn’t produce much apart from a shot that hit the post. Leon Goretzka criticized their own “game management” in the final phase. Portugal showed more experience here, running down the clock. “We had scuffles that didn’t help us at all in that moment,” Goretzka said, annoyed by their own performance.

Despite patches of solid play, Germany had trouble with Portugal from start-to-finish and lost momentum after head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s substitutions and ultimately could not hold off a determined Portugal side.
