Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is very much in fashion right now; Sandfall’s creation is at once a love letter to some of gaming’s best JRPGs, and a powerful step forward for the genre in its own right. It’s won our hearts at PCGamesN with its stunning world and cast of instantly likable characters, so of course the promise of official merchandise for them has perked my ears up. In a new post, Sandfall teases that it’s currently looking into creating an Esquie plushie, as it warns of potential scams from “suspicious websites.”
In a story packed with charmers, Esquie still manages to stand out as one of Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s best characters. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory, the giant being has become a real figurehead for the RPG thanks to his friendly, whimsical personality and extremely comforting hugs. His ‘wheees’ and ‘whooos’ are now frequently echoed by the community, and it’s no surprise that people want their very own real-life Esquie. However, Sandfall cautions against taking advantage of the current offerings.
“We’ve noticed a number of suspicious websites popping up, claiming to sell Esquie plushies. This makes us whooo,” the studio writes in a post shared to social media. “To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are not officially licensed. Many of them are using AI-generated artwork to advertise, and we strongly recommend against purchasing from these sources. They could be scams.”
Instead, Sandfall offers some good news. “Here’s the wheee to balance out the whooo: we are looking into making official Esquie plushies, and we want to bring them to you as soon as we can,” the developer confirms. “In the meantime, please be patient – and don’t get scammed.”
Personally, I’m hoping for Sandfall to bring us a giant Esquie bean bag that I can sink into at the end of a long day. While that might not be quite what’s currently on the cards, a man can dream. For now, I’ll simply have to content myself with his endlessly cheerful and uplifting in-game demeanor.
