We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to action roguelikes. Hades. Dead Cells. Risk of Rain. Enter the Gungeon. Vampire Survivors. I could quite easily spend this entire article listing everything the genre has to offer, but that’s not what I’m here to do. Instead, I want to tell you about Kiborg. With echoes of Cyberpunk 2077’s world and Sifu’s combat, it packs one hell of a punch. Best of all, it’s finally out on Steam with a nice launch discount.
In the future, your prison sentence doesn’t end if you die. Instead, you’re reconstructed, piece by piece, and thrown right back into your cell. Not all hope is lost, however, because you can fight for your freedom on a gruesome reality TV show. You won’t survive, obviously, but in the sci-fi dystopia of Kiborg, that’s the point.
Your consistent demise is what makes Kiborg a roguelike game, but it’s so much more than that. As Morgan Lee, you can lessen your 1,300-year sentence with a mixture of weapons. Swing gigantic hammers, unload powerful shotguns, or use your trusty fists – if it can cause destruction, you’d best believe it can get you your freedom.
When you die in Kiborg, which you will, it’s time to make sure Lee enters the next fight with some advantages. You can replace Lee’s body parts with a range of cybernetic implants, each of which opens up a new playstyle for you to try out. Augmentations match with dozens of mutations to help you create synergies, while the range of melee weapons and firearms gives you even more combinations.
