Fellowship tier list – Who’s the best character?
Here’s how we feel each of the seven heroes fits into the Fellowship tier list at launch:
Tier | Character |
S | Helena, Mara, Sylvie |
A | Meiko, Ardeos |
B | Vigour, Rime |
Note that no part of the Fellowship tier list is absolute. It’s always subject to change. A single balance patch can skew the rankings in an instant, and how a character performs is subject to the player behind the figurative wheel. In fact, with these rankings being based on the final beta, there’s a strong chance pre-launch patch notes will completely upend it.
The current Fellowship tier list is based not only on our own experience with the game and others like it, but the experience of players who’ve chimed in on discussion boards like the Fellowship Discord server.
These heroes grow not only with player experience, but with tiered upgrades and perks that constitute a player-specificed build. The tier list should be used solely as a guideline based on character potential: both at high levels of play and when used by a beginner.
Who is the best healer in Fellowship?
Best Healer | Sylvie |
Runner-up | Vigour |
Sylvie – Healer
Viewed as the better of the two healers currently available, Slyvie’s access to a pet opens up her potential as a sub-DPS as well as a competent healer.
Though complex and certainly not suited to beginners, given her stance as the lifeline of the team, high-level Slyvie play will keep the team topped up with passive healing while dealing respectable damage, technically mitigating damage by virtue of speeding up the fight.
Vigour – Healer
With a focus on area heals, Vigour sounds great in practice. And he is-with a competent team.
When paired with damage dealers that thrive in multi-mob situations, so too can Vigour thrive with a team that stays together. But when the game’s other healer can deal damage and heal at the same time, without restrictions on placement, Vigour struggles to stand out.
Is Vigour a bad character? Absolutely not. A bad healer? No way. He’s just a less technical support hero. One you should choose if you’re a beginner looking for fast queues with aspirations of leading your team to victory without relying on micro-managing anyone but yourself.
Who is the best tank in Fellowship?
Best Tank | Helena |
Runner-up | Meiko |
Helena – Tank
Your standard sword and board damage sponge, Helena plays into the valiant knight or dutiful paladin stereotype, blocking, parrying, stunning, and otherwise shrugging off incoming damage by rotating mitigation skills.
On top of making it easy to spread damage around mob packs for easy aggro upkeep, predictable area attacks and decent mobility make keeping enemies glued to her side relatively easy. So long as the healer is ready to soothe a steady stream of incoming damage, Helena is willing to take it.
Meiko – Tank
Being the least equipped character in the whole game based on appearance alone, Meiko manages to stave off damage while dishing out a ton in return. As a Monk, Meiko’s calm mind and undefeated discipline can allow her to simply ignore trash mobs nipping at her heels. For a while, at least.
As they try to gnaw off her legs and face, she strikes back with precision strikes for exceptional damage. If you and your healer can stomach the ebb and flow of Meiko’s constant dance with death, the single-target damage tradeoff can lead to some trivial boss encounters.
At the highest levels of play, Meiko is sure to stand as one of the best Fellowship tanks around. But for the humble newcomer or casual player, her risky plays might be a little too unnerving.
Who is the best DPS in Fellowship?
Best single-target DPS | Mara |
Best AOE DPS | Ardeos |
Honorable mention | Rime |
Mara – DPS
If you live for big crits and the building of combo meters, Mara is your DPS. The twin dagger rogue of Fellowship excels in timely sneak attacks and pacification, dealing stellar single-target damage in reliable bursts.
In organized groups, she’s able to remove mobs from the equation in a single click, statistically strengthening the team’s chances of survival by strategically stunning targets that would otherwise make the mission far more difficult.
If you want to feel like as much of the brain as the brawn of the group, Mara is the best DPS in Fellowship. Not only is she likely to top the charts in single-target damage, but there’s a solid chance she’ll exponentially expedite a run simply by quickly dealing with the types of mobs that frequently derail it.
Rime – DPS
Rime’s position alongside the other best characters in Fellowship makes her best suited to high single-target situations as opposed to fast trash clearing. She’s typically built as a burst-heavy damage dealer.
As Rime’s attacks land with deadly precision, she builds a resource bar that can be spent to deal heavy damage in short bursts, generating Winter Orbs to sustain her damage output as she builds up to her next bone-chilling burst.
If you want a bone-chilling caster with relatively low complexity, Rime is a great choice. With little responsibility in easier runs, Rime is the DPS character best suited to newcomers across the board. At higher levels, though, you’ll either be forced into the crowd-control role, limiting your DPS, or see your damage struggle to keep up.
Ardeos – DPS
Ardeos works in a way that’s similar to Rime, instead swapping chilling ice-based attacks for fireballs and toasty off-GCD flings.
Ardeos deals sustained damage over time to build up to cataclysmic area attacks with the Detonate ability, which resolves these attacks for immediate damage with a cool “click.” This makes him great for dealing area damage against packs.
If blowing packs of mobs away in seconds sounds like your jam, Ardeos will have you seeing stars. And by stars, we mean stacks of damage numbers on the road to each boss.
And that should be everything you need to know about the Fellowship tier list for launch. We’ll have more detailed build guides to follow as you play later down the line.
