Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is live now, but not for everyone

Ever since Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, I’ve been hungrily waiting for the chance to try it. It’s the MMORPG that made me fall in love with the entire genre, so the prospect of playing it on the go is something I can wholeheartedly get behind. The bad news is FF14 Mobile is coming to China first, with the Western release on the way soon after. The good news, though, is that it finally launched in China, meaning we hopefully don’t have long to wait.

According to a machine translated article from Chinese video platform Bilibili, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is live in the region right now. This version of the game is set to feature 16 dye channels, putting 7.0’s measly two to shame. There’s also an auto pathing feature, which’ll make getting around Eorzea much easier on your phone. We’ve always thought of FF14 as one of the best MMORPGs ever made, so here’s hoping the mobile version lives up to the hype.

If you want to see some extended gameplay of the Chinese launch, YouTube channel Gaming Mobile has uploaded almost 30 minutes of footage. They show off the mobile version’s character creator, the Thanalan intro, and everyone’s favorite Scion, Thancred.

Now that the game is live in China, I’m hoping we’ll learn more about the global launch very soon. Square Enix has remained relatively tight-lipped about what we can expect in the West since the initial reveal last year, so now could be the perfect time to ramp up to launch. It’s unclear how similar the Chinese and global versions of FF14 Mobile will be, so we’ll have to wait to find out.
