Paradox Interactive is known best for creating and publishing historical strategy games like Crusader Kings 3, Victoria 3, Imperator: Rome, and the upcoming Europa Universalis 5. It’s also branched out, though, by putting out games like Shadowrun: Hong Kong creator Harebrained Schemes’ noir-inflected The Lamplighters League, medieval combat game War of the Vikings, and supporting The Chinese Room’s work on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Another project in this vein is 2020’s Empire of Sin, a solid enough gangster strategy game that seemed to have come and gone without making a major impression. Now, surprisingly, a new expansion has been announced for it, all these years later, and it’s out today.
Empire of Sin’s Hunt for Aurora DLC expands on the strategy game’s simulation of the mob battles and criminal operations of 1920s Chicago. It adds onto the base game’s turn-based combat and gang management with the introduction of new characters and features.
Those new characters are the crime bosses Robin Kray and his partner, Sylvia Taylor, who enter the dangerous Chicago underworld in search of their own profits and, most importantly, the ‘Aurora diamond’ held in the city. There’s a new character class focused on getting up close and personal with melee attacks against enemies; a dog companion; weapons ranging from submachine guns and pistols to rifles and knives; a dance club racket; and 14 missions following the story of Kray and Taylor’s diamond heist.
Alongside the DLC, the base game will also receive new updates and fixes.
