A new ad for the Australia vs India T20 Series on JioStar manages to be both nostalgic and current by teaming up cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Singh Sidhu in a genuinely funny scenario. Ditching their commentary boxes for lab coats, the two play eccentric scientists trying to “decode” the Australian style of play.
The ad’s central gag is Sidhu presenting their latest, highly impractical invention: a “Sledging-Cancellation Helmet.” It’s a great piece of satire, acknowledging how much the rivalry is defined by the verbal intensity—the “banter”—that accompanies the fast bowling. Sidhu, in his usual flamboyant style, makes the whole idea delightfully over-the-top, poking fun at how seriously everyone analyses the psychological battles of the game.
The humor gets a modern twist when RJ Mahvash walks in. She cuts straight through their pseudo-science and gimmicks, saying the perfect, no-nonsense line: “Hatao helmet… Skyball kaafi hai!” This instantly shifts the focus from old-school defenses to the current Indian team’s aggressive confidence under captain Suryakumar Yadav.
The ad cleverly suggests that there’s no need for elaborate theories or gear anymore; the team’s skill and powerful, attacking play—the “Skyball” style—is the only answer needed.
