There’s nothing quite like the thrill of brutally tearing apart a crowd of demons or getting into the rhythm of playing as the Doom Slayer. While Doom: The Dark Ages may take us back in time before the events of the 2016 reboot and its sequel, Eternal, it doesn’t seem to be holding back on creative new ways to rip and tear, and you can already grab it at a major discount before it’s even out.

As far as FPS games go, the Doom series is iconic, but it also isn’t afraid of trying new things. Doom: The Dark Ages’ slower, more methodical approach to demon slaying turns the Doom Slayer into a highly mobile tank wielding a giant, bladed shield.

Set between the end of Doom 64 and the return of the Slayer in 2016’s pseudo-reboot, The Dark Ages sets up Doomguy as a superweapon for the Makyrs. Hell’s forces are just as vicious as ever in this upcoming PC game, but armed with the Shield Saw, you can embody the role of Doom’s silent protagonist like a twisted version of Captain America, just with more guts and gore.

While I’m excited to see this fresh twist on Doom’s gameplay, the release date is still a few days away. In the meantime, you can read Ed’s thoughts in his Doom: The Dark Ages preview, where he calls it “an authentic effort to find something new, and not rely on the format of a previous success.” What’s more is that you can already grab id’s latest at a big discount before launch.

If you’re looking to enjoy the techno-fantasy vibes of Doom: The Dark Ages, you can grab the game for just $58.09 / £58.09 at Fanatical. Few games offer the rush of slaying crowds of enemies like Doom does, and I’m looking forward to diving into the latest entry, especially at such a discount.

Alternatively, you can grab the premium edition for just $82.99 / £82.99 at Fanatical. For that price, you’ll get 48 hours of early access, the post-launch campaign DLC, the digital artbook and soundtrack, and the Divinity Skin Pack.

If you’re as excited for this one as I am, you could always pass the time before launch by playing the latest new PC games. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a highlight for me, and this RPG has made for a brilliant palate cleanser before the Doom: The Dark Ages release date on May 15. If you’re unsure whether your rig can handle it, here are the Doom: The Dark Ages system requirements.
