The former Manchester United captain, still the world’s most expensive defender transfer at £80million, is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer
Harry Maguire is ready to snub a £500k-a-week deal to move to Saudi Arabia to stay at Manchester United – if they offer him a new contract.
Maguire is out of contract in June and, as revealed last week, has become a target of Saudi outfits Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq.
The veteran England defender will be free to open talks with clubs in January, and a move to the Middle East could see him land a mega-money contract as he enters the twilight of his career. Maguire turns 33 in March.

There is a temptation on the player’s part to cash in on what would be the last lucrative move of his career – particularly if United stick by their decision to look to the future and don’t offer him a new contract. They took up the option in Maguire’s current contract last summer, something he, ultimately, didn’t have a choice in.
But new suggestions are that United are indeed considering handing the defender a contract extension. Talks will take place in the coming weeks, but Maguire will want assurances the deal is right for him.
Maguire knows joining the Saudi Pro-League would damage his chances of extending his England career, whether that’s under Thomas Tuchel – if he continues after next summer – or a new boss.
And if he pledges his future to United, he wants to know he will remain an integral pat of the club’s plans, whoever is the manager.
In an ideal world, Maguire would be willing to see out the rest of his career at Old Trafford. But he is mindful the next deal he signs will be the last major one of his career, and the terms would have to be right.
