Kolkata : East Bengal FC kicked off its IFA Shield 2025 campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Sreenidi Deccan FC at the Kalyani Stadium on Wednesday.
The Red and Gold brigade’s new signing, Jay Gupta, made an immediate impact, netting the opening goal on his debut in the 21st minute.
Captain Saul Crespo then doubled the lead just before halftime. East Bengal maintained the pressure after the restart.
The second essay saw the Kolkata-based team extended the gap through another new recruit, Ahadad Hamid, extended the gap to three goals.
Just three minutes later, Jeakson Singh finished off the scoring with a well-placed header, sealing the 4-0 rout.
Speaking to the media after the win, East Bengal head coach Oscar Bruzon said, “We are happy to return to competitive football with a 4-0 win. Sreenidi fielded their B team and tried their best to put up a good fight. At the same time, it’s true that we need to be more clinical in conversion. Our focus shifts to the group stage decider against Namdhari and we need to put up a stronger performance against them.”
East Bengal FC will face Namdhari FC in its final IFA Shield Group A fixture on 14 October at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
