Jaideep Ahlawat confirmed being offered Ramayana, but revealed he couldn’t take on the role due to scheduling conflicts
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is one of the most eagerly awaited films. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Jaideep Ahlawat was approached to play the role of Vibhishana in the ambitious mythological film, however, he had to let go of the opportunity due to prior work commitments and scheduling conflicts. Now, Jaideep has himself confirmed the same, revealing that he couldn’t take on the role due to scheduling conflicts. He shared that the role required him to shoot alongside Yash, who is playing Raavana, making the timing crucial. Since the dates didn’t match, he was unable to commit to the project.
In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Jaideep Ahlawat said that he was indeed offered a role in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana. “Offer hua tha. Par timing match nahi ho rahi thi. Ek particular time chahiye tha jisme kar sakte the kyonki Vibhishan ke saath Raavan ka hona zaruri hai. I’m sure Raavan ki dates mujh se zyada important hogi. I think Yash kar rahe hain, KGF waale (I was offered the role, but the timing didn’t match. It required a specific schedule because Vibhishan’s scenes need to be with Raavana. I’m sure Raavana’s dates were more important than mine. I think Yash from KGF is playing Raavana).”
Ramayana already boasts a powerhouse ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi is cast as Sita, and Yash will be seen as Raavana. Sunny Deol has been cast as Hanuman, while television actor Ravi Dubey will take on the role of Lakshman. Lara Dutta has been roped in to play Kaikeyi, while Rakul Preet Singh will portray the fiery and complex Shurpanakha. Kajal Aggarwal is set to essay the role of Mandodari, the dignified queen of Lanka. The film will be released in two parts in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Kunal mentioned that the audience will witness never-before-seen grandeur in Ramayana. He told us, “This is a very important film in our cultural history. It’s a really important part of our cultural ethos. I think it’s important that you have filmmakers and people to give it the kind of scale it needs. This is mounted at a scale that we’ve never seen before.”
