Larian has released a new Baldur’s Gate 3 update aimed at fixing one of the most pervasive issues in the RPG since patch 8 dropped. Hotfix 31 finally stops you from “tripping balls” (Larian’s words, not mine) when travelling between locations, because more often than not your screen would be covered in an eyewatering kaleidoscope of colors for no apparent reason.
Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 has completely changed Larian’s RPG, but not entirely for the better. The new update might come with a photo mode and new subclasses, but it also has quite the eye-watering glitch. Sometimes, when travelling between locations, your screen would be covered in bright, blinding colors that make it hard to see. Luckily for us, this issue has now been fixed, but you can see it for yourself below if you’re the curious type.
Once you’re done rubbing your eyes and judging my editor Lauren for playing Ranger (who supplied me with this screenshot), you’ll be glad to know this glitch shouldn’t happen in BG3 anymore. “Good news everybody, you’ll no longer be tripping balls,” Larian writes. “Today’s hotfix aims to tackle the kaleidoscope of colors that appear when changing locations, as well as various other bugs that have made their way into the game.”
Larian has fixed plenty more bugs in the hotfix, too, but the sudden, dazzling display of color was definitely the most pressing concern. Plenty of issues with the 12 new subclasses have been addressed, alongside problems with the photo mode as well.
