Sports Mole previews Friday’s La Liga clash between Sevilla and Elche, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sevilla will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in Spain’s top flight when they resume their campaign with a clash against Elche at Estadio Ramon on Friday evening.
The home side, who are 12th in the La Liga table, recorded a 2-0 victory over Girona last time out, while the seventh-placed visitors continued their solid start with a 2-0 success over Levante.
Match preview
Sevilla started their 2025-26 campaign with successive defeats to Athletic Bilbao and Getafe, so there was huge pressure on the team to bounce back in their clash with Girona on August 30.
Head coach Matias Almeyda was given the response that he had demanded from his players, as goals from Alfon Gonzalez and Isaac Romero secured a huge three points, with Sevilla moving into 12th spot in the table.
Los Nervionenses finished 17th in La Liga last season, just one point above the relegation zone, which represented their worst campaign since being relegated from the top flight in 2000-01.
Sevilla managed to make seven signings during the summer transfer window, but they lost two key players, with Loic Bade making the switch to Bayer Leverkusen while Dodi Lukebakio joined Benfica.
The former Spanish champions finished fourth in three straight seasons between 2020 and 2022, but they have been 12th, 14th and 17th in the last three campaigns, with the team currently going through a very tough period.
Elche, meanwhile, finished second in the Segunda Division last season to secure a return to the top flight, and it has been a very encouraging start to the campaign for Eder Sarabia‘s side.
The Green-striped ones drew their opening two league games against Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, before recording a 2-0 victory over Levante before the international break, with Rafa Mir and Rodrigo Mendoza on the scoresheet.
Five points from three matches has left Elche up in seventh spot in the table, and they have not managed to finish higher than 13th in the top flight of Spanish football since claiming eighth in 1974-75.
The Valencian outfit were incredibly busy during the summer transfer window, bringing in 13 new players either permanently or on loan, while there were also 13 departures.
Elche have only actually won 14 of their previous 50 matches against Sevilla in all competitions, with their last success over Friday’s opponents coming in March 2021, but their last clash in May 2023 finished 1-1.

Team News
Batista Mendy, Fabio Cardoso, Alexis Sanchez and Cesar Azpilicueta are all in line for potential Sevilla debuts on Friday after arriving at Estadio Ramon in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.
However, head coach Almeyda is expected to reward those that impressed in the success against Girona last time out, so Azpilicueta may be the only one of the four to come into the side for the first whistle.
Sevilla will definitely be missing Joan Jordan on Friday through injury, while Tanguy Nianzou, Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke will all face late fitness tests before their availability can be determined.
As for Elche, an injury could rule Yago Santiago out of the contest, but the visitors are otherwise in strong shape.
There is every chance that Elche will be unchanged from their win over Levante last time out due to the nature of the performance, with Mir set to continue in the final third of the field.
The promoted outfit have impressed in a back five this season, and Pedro Bigas will again skipper the side from the middle of the defence, while ex-Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Rodriguez is set to feature in the final third of the field.
Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Azpilicueta, Castrin, Salas, Suazo; Agoume, Gudelj; Ajuke, Vargas, Gonzalez; Romero
Elche possible starting lineup:
Dituro; Nunez, Affengruber, Bigas, Chust, Valera; Aguado, Febas; Mendoza; Rodriguez, Mir
We say: Sevilla 1-1 Elche
It was 1-1 when these two sides last locked horns in May 2023, and we can see the same scoreline here; Sevilla will be looking to use home advantage to make it back-to-back wins, but Elche have impressed early this season.
