Mumbai Indians (MI) legend Rohit Sharma has reached another milestone. He’s now the first-ever batter to score 6000 runs for the franchise (across IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20).

The right-hander needed just 29 runs to reach the mark at the start of the match. He got there with a sweep against Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s Kumar Kartikeya’s full-toss to deep square leg at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday (May 1) in the 50th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

No other MI batter even has 4000 runs to their name. The second-best on the list is West Indian all-rounder and the team’s current batting coach, Kieron Pollard, at 3915 runs, followed by Suryakumar Yadav at 3460 runs.

Rohit has reached the mark in his 231st match for MI. In his grand career for the five-time champions, he has faced over 4500 deliveries, scoring two centuries and 38 fifties.

Earlier today, Rohit had spoken about how he tried to provide maximum impact to MI with his performances at the top of the order.

“My target has never been to score a certain number of runs in a season,” Rohit said in an interview on the YouTube channel Vimalwa. “I want to win matches and for that, I have always given my best. It doesn’t matter if you score 600-700 runs and aren’t winning a trophy. It (The runs) won’t matter.”

“I have learned my lessons during 2019 World Cup itself. If you aren’t able to reach final and win trophy then what will I do with those 500-600 runs? It might be good for me but not for the team,” he added.

“But I am not claiming that my 30 runs are helping the team to win. My focus is on making contributions that benefit the team. Before I used to think I have to score runs (but not anymore). Whenever MI has won a trophy, nobody from our team has won the Orange Cap. There’s a reason behind that,” the India captain said.

Rohit has picked up form this IPL 2025 season, with two 70-plus knocks in the last three matches.
