It’s not just you. The Steam store and the Nintendo eShop are having major issues on Thursday morning, the day of the long-awaited launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong, that may be due to a mass influx of traffic as a result of Team Cherry’s release. Steam is up and down, as of around 10 a.m. EDT, when Silksong was scheduled to launch on Windows PC.
When trying to load the Steam website, the desktop application, or the Steam store via a Steam Deck, visitors may see the error message “Something Went Wrong. We were unable to service your request. Please try again later. E502 L3.” Website DownDetector is showing thousands of reports from users who say that Steam is not working for them. But Valve appears to be quickly addressing the issue; the Steam website occasionally loads just fine. Polygon has reached out to Valve for comment and will update this story when the company responds.
Visitors to the Nintendo eShop are experiencing similar issues. Trying to load the Hollow Knight: Silksong page on the eShop is displaying errors as well. Customers may see the warning “Error Code: 2811-7429. Couldn’t connect to the server. The network may be busy, or there may be a problem with the server. Please try again later.”
Platforms like Steam and the eShop appear to be buckling as starved Silksong fans finally get a chance to download and play the game they’ve been waiting years for. Team Cherry did not make Silksong available for preload ahead of its Sept. 4 release across multiple platforms.
Regardless of the hiccups, Hollow Knight fans will finally get their chance to play the game, once this traffic jam subsides. Hollow Knight: Silksong is available for Linux, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
