The month-long door-to-door enumeration of Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in the district will begin on Tuesday (November 4). Booth-Level Officers will distribute the prescribed forms to every family at their doorstep and subsequently collect the completed forms from them.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Collector R. Sukumar said the SIR of electoral roll would be done to include all eligible voters in the voters’ list with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date. The personnel to be involved in the exhaustive exercise underwent training between October 28 and November 3. The enumerators and their supervisors had been instructed to be impartial in including and deleting voters from the electoral roll by cross-checking the information furnished in the forms.Upon completing the delimitation of polling booths before December 4, the draft electoral roll would be published on December 9.

After receiving appeals and the objections from the voters based on the draft electoral roll between December 9 and January 1, 2026, Electors Registration Officers would visit the houses concerned from December 9 and January 31, 2026 to verify the details (appeals/objections) submitted by the voters. After scrutiny of the appeals and objections, the electoral roll after SIR would be submitted to the District Election Officer before February 3, 2026.

“So, we’ll release the final electoral roll on February 7, 2026,” Dr. Sukumar said.

As per the SIR taken up in April 2002, the district’s rural Assembly constituencies of Ambasamudram, Nanguneri, Radhapuram and erstwhile Cheranmahadevi had 6,92,739 voters (3,36,029 men, 3,56,710 women) and the urban Assembly segments of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai had 4,38,051 voters (2,15,701 men, 2,22,350 women) as per the SIR done in September 15, 2005.

The voters’ details as per SIR 2002 and 2005 had been uploaded at https://www.elections.tn.gov.in, https://tirunelveli.nic.in and the Booth Level Officers’ mobile app. As per the existing electoral rolls, Tirunelveli district had 14,18,325 voters (6,91,026 men, 7,27,130 women and 169 other) as on October 27, 2025.

During the enumeration, two copies of prescribed forms would be issued to every family at their doorstep between November 4 and December 4. If a house was found to be locked, the forms would be dropped at the house and the Booth Level Officer would come to the house at least thrice to receive the filled-in forms. The voters need not submit any document during the enumeration.

“The voters will have to submit one of the self-attested documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India only when any of the voters’ name was not found in the electoral roll released after the previous SIR,” Dr. Sukumar said.

While receiving the filled-in forms along with colour photos of the voters, the Booth Level Officer would give acknowledgement in the copy of the form and hand it over to the voter or head of the family.

After the release of draft electoral roll, claims and objections would be obtained from the voters, which would be verified by the Booth Level Officers. Voters who could not submit the filled-in forms within the stipulated deadline could submit their claims and objections along with Form 6. “If the voters are not satisfied with the decision taken by the Booth Level Officer on including the name of any elector, they are free to file the first appeal with the District Collector and District Electoral Officer and the second appeal with the Chief Electoral Officer,” Dr. Sukumar said.

Any complaint pertaining to SIR may be filed through toll-free number 1950 and 0462 – 2501181.

The Collector also said that each polling booth would not have more than 1,200 voters and delimitation of the booths had been done in consultation with the representatives of recognised political parties. As per the proposal submitted to the Election Commission of India after the delimitation of booths, 190 new polling booths would be created to take the total number of booths in the district to 1,680.
