Redsec launches alongside BF6 season 1

We’ve known Battlefield Studios has been working on a battle royale mode for the FPS game for some time now, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard any news about it. As it turns out, the rumors last week of it arriving alongside the Battlefield 6 season 1 release time are true. The Battlefield 6 battle royale will be available starting tomorrow.

Tomorrow also marks the launch of season 1, which will bring a new map, mode, weapons, and now Redsec as well. (Redsec, by the way, is short for “Redacted Sector.”) The embedded trailer above will go live alongside launch, giving players a taste of what to expect.

The biggest news is that Battlefield Redsec — much like Call of Duty: Warzone — will be free-to-play, so you don’t need to own Battlefield 6 to play. Some players have played early versions of the mode already, as Battlefield Studios ran playtests in Battlefield Labs, the series’ “most ambitious community collaboration,” and feedback on the subreddit was very positive.

Reddit user Dimension_Forsaken’s impressions are that “the adrenaline rush when facing another squad can’t be found in any other battle royale. It feels like life or death and you actually care if you die or survive.” Meanwhile, Reddit user otclogic said that despite being a snob beforehand, they’re all for the battle royale after playing it.

Of course, the mode may have changed over the last month or two, in terms of balancing and pace, but early signs are strong that Redsec could be a true Warzone competitor. Here’s hoping the best guns in Battlefield 6 also apply to the battle royale.
