Wood is quickly becoming the latest trend in gaming PC builds, with plenty of the latest cases featuring wooden front panels, and now it looks as though you’ll soon be able to add a touch of good old-fashioned wood grain to your CPU cooler too. Deepcool has just shared a teaser image of a new air cooler with wooden paneling that it’s going to show off at the Computex tradeshow in Taiwan, and to me it looks much classier than an LCD.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen wood added to CPU cooling gear, of course. EK produced a very stylish range of wooden waterblocks for those brave enough to water-cool a PC, for example, but this is the first time I’ve seen wood on an air cooler. Typically, the best CPU coolers in this sector are mainly made from metal, with a large fan or two helping to push air through all the heatsink fins, but this Computex teaser from Deepcool is the first time I’ve seen an air cooler with wood incorporated into the design.
Deepcool hasn’t revealed any details about the new cooler, beyond a teaser post on X (formerly Twitter), which simply says it’s giving a “sneak peek at new products to be unveiled at Computex” [machine translation].
I’m hoping that the plural “s” in the translation also means that this isn’t the only wood-flaunting product that Deepcool will be showing off at Computex. After all, a touch of wood could make for one of the best AIO cooler designs in terms of aesthetics, and Deepcool makes a range of products, including cases, PSUs, and liquid coolers, that could all benefit from a touch of wooden flair.
The photo that’s been shared on social media only hints at what’s coming in the new cooler, but you can clearly see two wooden panels nestling in the metal housing on top of two stacks of heatsink fins. Meanwhile, two large fans are clipped to the arrangement – one on the front and one in the middle – making for a push-pull configuration to shift as much heat from the CPU as possible, and push it out the rear of your case.
If you like your PC to look more like a traditional piece of furniture than a modern collection of metal and plastic, check out this wood gaming PC build, as well as this superb Noctua gaming PC, both of which show some great attention to detail with their craftsmanship. Both builds also use Noctua CPU coolers, which complement the wood with their brown accents, but we have to wonder if one of these new Deepcool designs would look even better.
