US Stock Market today: The Wall Street benchmark indices like the Dow Jones, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 hit their record high levels on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, as the US Federal Reserve begins its two-day policy meeting to determine the rate cuts for the US economy.
All eyes are now on the US Federal Reserve’s decision, which will be announced after the FOMC’s policy meeting ends on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.
In the September policy announcement, the US Fed decided to cut the benchmark interest rates for the first time since US President Donald Trump took charge of White House in Janaury 2025. The central bank cut the interest rates by 25 basis points to the range of 4.00% to 4.25%.
The US Fed also said that the committee will analyse more data to chart the path forward for further rate cuts in 2025.
US Inflation data snapshot
Mint reported earlier that the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data showed that consumer inflation in the economy has risen to 3% on a 12-month basis in September 2025, compared to 2.9% on a 12-month basis in August 2025.
The data released on 24 October 2025 also highlighted that the overall prices in the US economy rose at a rate of 0.3% in September 2025, compared to a 0.4% rise in August 2025.
Dow Jones today
At 9:30 a.m. (EDT) opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.44% to open at 47,752.35 points, compared to 47,544.59 points at the previous Wall Street close. The index is trading 0.53% higher at 47,794.77 points as of 11:10 a.m. (EDT), according to Marketwatch data.
Sherwin-Williams Co., Microsoft Corp., International Business Machines Corp., Coca-Cola Inc., Salesforce Inc., Procter & Gamble Co., and Boeing Co. are among the top gainers on Tuesday.
While others like Nike Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co. Inc., Walmart Inc., 3M Co., and Honeywell International Inc. were among the top losers on Wall Street on 28 October.
Nasdaq today
The Nasdaq Composite index on Tuesday opened 0.55% higher at 23,766.463 points compared to 23,637.46 points at the previous market session. The index was trading 0.32% higher at 23,712.57 points as of 11:29 a.m. (EDT), Marketwatch data shows.
VSee Health Inc., TEN Holdings Inc., Pulmonx Corp., Founder Group Ltd, J-Star Holdings Co. Ltd., and CN Healthy Food Tech Group Corp. were among the top gainers on Tuesday.
Others like Smart Digital Group Ltd, Co-Diagonistics Inc., Adaptimmune Therapeutics Plc ADR, SMX (Security Matters) Plc, and Aditxt Inc. were among the top laggards on Nasdaq.
S&P 500 today
The S&P 500 rose 0.33% to open at 6,897.74 points compared to 6,875.16 points at the previous market session. The index is trading 0.01% lower at 6,874.34 points as of 11:35 a.m. (EDT), according to Marketwatch data.
Skyworks Solutions Inc., PayPal Holdings, United Parcel Services Inc., Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc., and Nucor Corp were among the gainers on the index.
While others like Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc., Zebra Technologies Corp., Everest Group Ltd, F5 Inc., Royal Caribbean Group, and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc, were among the laggards on Tuesday’s stock market session on Wall Street.
