The result of the match is inconsequential as both teams are out of the qualifying race. India’s campaign ended on October 14 in Goa, when it squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 1-2 to Singapore.
The loss left the Blue Tigers stranded on two points from four matches. Even if India wins its remaining ties, it can only reach eight points, something Singapore and Hong Kong have already secured and are certain to surpass.
Bangladesh also has two points.
Will Sunil Chhetri play in Bangladesh vs India AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier match?
India’s all-time top scorer Sunil Chhetri was not part of the squad that travelled to Bangladesh for the match.
Earlier this month, the forward announced that his India career had come to an end after the Blue Tigers’ exit from the final round of qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 after the loss against Singapore.
Chhetri had initially announced his retirement in June 2024 after a farewell match at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium.
However, he came out of retirement when the then-India head coach Manolo Marquez requested him to make himself available for India’s matches for the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
In the six games Chhetri played for India since coming out of retirement, he scored just once.
