Arc Raiders has surpassed 130k concurrent players on Steam for the first time since April. The new Frozen Trail update has boosted player numbers as Raiders explore the new icy wasteland, take on a handful of new enemies, and try out the new grappling hook.
It’s been a while since we’ve had anything new in Arc Raiders, so, quality aside, there was always going to be a surge in numbers with a new expansion. Frozen Trails is the biggest update to the multiplayer game in what feels like forever, and while a dedicated core audience remained seated for the more fallow months, plenty departed for pastures new.
There is also the matter of Arc Raiders being free to play this weekend, giving plenty of people a chance to dip their toes in before deciding if they want to commit. It feels like everyone and their dog bought a copy at launch, but free is free, and I’m sure this has contributed somewhat to the resurgence.
Instead of concentrating on where Arc Raiders used to be, I think it’s important to focus on where it is now: concurrents have tripled from this time last month, there’s a ton of new content to explore, and there’s a new outpost where I can store the bits of trash I find topside. I haven’t had a chance to dig into Frozen Trails yet, but I’ve set aside some time this weekend to freeze my butt off.
