As far as I’m concerned, Nic Cage appearing in Dead by Daylight remains one of the most bonkers moments in recent gaming history. The iconic actor’s face and voice have been in the horror game for two years now as a chaotic survivor, and, since then, even more famous faces and voices have passed through The Fog.
The team behind the multiplayer game prides itself on these crossovers and collaborations. “Whenever we do one of these collaborations, it becomes an obsession, as it should be,” game director Mathieu Cote tells PCGamesN. “It’s the most important thing we’ve ever done at the moment we’re doing it.” We’ve had Iron Maiden, Tokyo Ghoul, Slipknot, and the legendary Junji Ito. Bruce Campbell reprises his role as Ash Williams, naturally, and Pinhead himself, Doug Bradley, is the voice of The Cenobite. Now, as the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter finally drops, none other than Matthew Lillard joins the ever-growing cast of Dead by Daylight as William Afton.
Announced during the annual DBD anniversary stream, this year presented live from PAX, the FNAF chapter’s killer character is, of course, Springtrap, AKA The Animatronic. “He’s the main reason the lore of FNAF exists,” game designer Jason Guzzo tells us. “He’s the big bad, so we had to do him justice, and we really did our best to make sure his powers and perks and just the overall vibe is FNAF. What’s cool is that his inclusion in DBD is the first time you get to step into his suit in a videogame, which I think is really cool and such an honor.”
The Yellow Rabbit, meanwhile, is a legendary skin for Springtrap. Cote explains more: “Most of the chapter is inspired by the games, especially the first one, but this outfit is based on the movie. A Legendary for Springtrap… allows you to become the Yellow Rabbit from the movie. It includes Matthew Lillard’s face, and he was generous enough to record all the voiceovers for the character. It’s kind of awesome.”
And that’s not the only collab revealed during the ninth anniversary stream. More cosmetics are on the way, including a crossover with The Witcher. Featuring a total of six outfits, the collection includes two Legendaries. One of them turns The Artist into The Leshen, while the handsome Vittorio is, of course, the perfect survivor to become Geralt, voiced by Doug Cockle, the original Geralt voice actor himself. To celebrate the collab, a Witcher-themed Chaos Shuffle is on the way.
Other outfits bring Eredin, Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss into The Entity’s realm. But there’s more. “We’re now able to bring in more types of assets,” Cote explains, “so there’s the charm with the little wolf medallion, but also a player banner where you can watch Geralt recline in his bath, as is now legendary in the world of The Witcher.”
In more upcoming cosmetic drops, Lara Croft’s wardrobe gets bigger with a new tactical outfit and, finally, there’s ‘Unified Lara’ with her mint vest and shorts. We’re also super excited about the Boulet Bros outfits, arriving on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, including Asia Consent’s winning costume for The Huntress and an outfit for The Artist. The latter is voiced by and styled on the Boulet Bros themselves. Finally, it’s been confirmed that Frank Stone will not be given his own DBD chapter, but is instead being incorporated as a Legendary outfit for The Trapper.
With so much licensed goodness coming to Dead by Daylight in the coming months, it’s easy to forget the great original material being released, too. The next killer is inspired by classic folklore like The Twins and The Huntress before them. After that, though, fans get to choose their own DBD adventure in an as-yet-undecided DLC.
