Shweta Khan’s mother, brothers, son and daughter have been detained by Howrah Police for questioning in connection with the Bengal porn racket case. The police are probing their alleged involvement in the case where Shweta Khan and Arian Khan have been accused of running a porn racket and torturing a woman by holding her captive for six months.
Arian Khan and his sister Joya Khan have also been detained. According to sources, Arian was picked up from Kolkata’s Golf Green area while Joya was detained in Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas. Sweta Khan remains absconding as the investigation continues.
The victim, a 23-year-old resident of North 24 Parganas, is currently battling for her life at the Sagor Dutta Medical College and Hospital. She reportedly sustained multiple injuries, including broken hands, feet, and bite wounds, after allegedly being tortured for refusing to act in pornographic content or work as a bar dancer.
The survivor’s family claims the accused tried to insert an iron rod into her private parts. Police are currently investigating whether the production house was a front for shooting “soft pornographic reels.”
“The accused woman and her son are absconding and a search for them has been launched. We are trying to probe whether they were running any pornography film racket in the veil of running an event management agency,” a police official told PTI.
The case took a political turn after photos of Sweta Khan with several senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders surfaced online. Images show her posing with state minister Arup Roy, MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and former minister Rajib Banerjee. One Facebook profile under the name Sweta Khatoon, now at the centre of the controversy, lists her as “works at TMC” and features cover photos of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and MP Abhishek Banerjee.
The BJP has seized on the photos to target the ruling party over its silence and alleged links to the accused.
“One thing is clear in this entire episode: the accused are very close to the Trinamool Congress. Several images of the woman with TMC leaders are available online. Despite such serious allegations, no arrests have been made. This is a complete breakdown of law and order,” BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal said.
Trinamool Congress is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
